Appupen is the creator of three books – Moonward, Legends of Halahala, and Aspyrus. All the books are a peek into the mythical world of Halahala. It is a splendid, dystopian world of love, consumerism and destructive ambition.
George Mathen is a visual artist and comics creator currently residing in Bangalore. He’s better known by his pseudonym, ‘Appupen’. He is the creator of ground-breaking graphic novels such as Moonward and Legends of Halahala. His third graphic novel, Aspyrus was released last year as well—all three books are set in the mysterious, mythical world of Halahala (created by him). George also plays the drums, and has been a part of Lounge Piranha, one of the best and most popular bands to have come out of Bangalore.
Suresh Jayaram is an artist, art historian, arts administrator and curator from Bangalore. He is the Founder, Director of Visual Art Collective/1.Shanthiroad Studio an international artist’s residency and alternative art space in Bangalore, India. He is currently involved in art practise, urban mapping, archiving, curation and arts education. His keen interest in environmental and urban developmental issues influences his work.
He taught Art History at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, the College of Fine Arts in Bangalore and later went on to become the Dean from 2005-2007. He obtained his BFA in painting from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat 1990 and MFA from M.S. University, Baroda in 1992 in Art Criticism.
